citrine blocks

I’m having a yellow moment this morning. I rarely wear yellow (I look like death warmed over in that color), but I love it as a home color, especially this super bright hue. How happy is this pillow? The chain stitching and sunshine color make this my perfect summer pillow. Click here to check it out and shop online (pillow by DwellStudio). xo, grace

Koren Chair by Djordje Zivanovic

Koren Chair by Djordje Zivanovic

Made by Eurokancom, the Koren chair by designer Djordje Zivanovic takes its form and assembly from early manufacturing techniques. Koren, the Serbian word for “roots,” looks back to a time when simplicity was king but updates it for our 21st century needs. Made of six pieces of beech wood joined together, Koren includes places to “put our things” when we sit down – purses, coats, hats, etc. – something I constantly look for whenever I go to a restaurant. Between my bag and my coat and scarf, sometimes it would be nice if a chair wasn’t just a chair.

Mini-Studio by FRENTEarquitectura

Mini Studio by FRENTEarquitectura

Built in Mexico City, this Mini-Studio, or art workshop, is nestled between three existing structures in the backyard of a house. Designed by FRENTEarquitectura, who carefully considered the direct sunlight that would stream into the space if not oriented correctly. In order to block some of the light without restricting the view, the upper level juts out to cast shadow over the ground floor windows. Overall, the space is full of trapezoidal shapes, giving dimension to the white walls and shiny epoxy-coated floors.

Glazed doors open up the ground floor making the outdoor and indoor spaces merge.

still life ipad case

I know the idea of repurposing artwork drives some people insane, but I’ve seen so many painted canvases torn in the streets of New York that I love it when people find new ways to keep them in their daily lives. Leslie Oschmann of Swarm is the queen of giving old paintings new life, and these iPad cases she made for Anthropologie are no exception. Each one-of-a-kind case is a literal work of art and comes with a leather strap for closing. I’m not always a fan of the slick look of most tech gear, so I like the idea of cloaking it in something a little more weathered. Click here to check it out in more detail and order online ($248 each). xo, grace

Typography in Four Dimensions by LoSiento

LoSiento-4DType.jpg

Barcelona-based graphic design studio LoSiento has been exploring ‘four dimensional’ lettering for at least a year now, honing their craft alongside client projects. As in the iconic cover of Douglas Hofstadter’s Gödel, Escher, Bach, the 3D object is an ambigram—i.e. it reads from multiple perspectives.

Fresh From The Dairy: Minimalist iPhone Cases

Fresh From The Dairy: Minimalist iPhone Cases

This post could also be entitled “Skim Milk: iPhone Cases.” We scoured Society6 for our favorite minimalist iPhone cases and here’s what we’ve discovered – four simple beauties that have become a part of our art collection The Design Milk Dairy. Pictured above is White Estival Mirage by INDUR.
